Contribution of the Tactual Museum to the elevation of other Museums and Cultural bodies to accessible destinations for visually impaired visitors
The Lighthouse for the Blind of Greece, with its long experience and know-how in ensuring conditions of equal accessibility for blind people and the Tactual Museum with its unique tools, methods and techniques for special tactile routes and contact of visually impaired people with art and culture, have developed a wide network of collaborations with bodies and associations all over Greece.
Thus, there have been ongoing cooperations with most Museums, Ephorates of Antiquities and other cultural bodies for the creation of tactile routes, staff training in managing blind visitors etc., while at the same time informational material (leaflets/signs/inscriptions in Braille) is produced by the Special Braille Printing Department of the association.
It is a holistic approach and a coordinated effort to cover basic gaps and create equal conditions of accessibility for the blind and at the same time cultivate a consciousness of creative coexistence of all citizens and establish inclusion practices.
Through the development of wider collaborations and participation in nationwide and international conferences, the Tactual Museum communicates in every possible way its unique presence and offer. Here follow some indicative significant cooperations developed with various bodies in the field of accessibility, that are constantly enriched in terms of the unstoppable actions and good practices of the Lighthouse and the Tactual Museum for the establishment of equal chances for all visitors.
