The Aphrodite of Melos

The Aphrodite of Melos

The wonderful statue of Aphrodite – Venus was found in Melos and now adorns the museum of Louvre. She is standing upright with her body slightly leaning to the right. The bottom half of her body is covered by a robe. Her hair is parted in the middle and is brought round to the back, where it is fastened in a round bun at the neck. Her arms have been broken off: the right one from the middle, the left from the shoulder. It dates from around 130 b.C.
