New Tactile Tours
The Τactual Museum of the Lighthouse for the Blind of Greece offers its visitors the opportunity for special themed tours, for the tactile exploration of one or more works of art, in order to create a mental image of the exhibit that is being touched.There are five specially designed thematic presentations depicting specific stories inspired by the ancient greek civilization, that are presented bellow.
Each visitor can choose one or more themed tours, according to their field of interest.

1. The Acropolis and the Panathenaea, the greatest festival of ancient Athens
It is a narrative journey that depicts the social, political and economic life of the ancient world. During this thematic journey and thanks to the ancient Greek art creations, visitors will both encounter buildings and temples and experience feelings and passions of people of that time. Exhibits from the great Acropolis Museum, as well as models of the sacred rock and the famous Parthenon temple, tell the history of the ancient city through the special and unique perspective of the Tactual Museum.

2. A short walk to the Theatre of Dionysus
This presentation has a lot to offer to the visitor’s perception of the most important archaeological site of Athens, the rock of the Acropolis. In this thematic, there is emphasis on the Theatre of Dionysus, the oldest theater in the world on the southern slope of the rock. Myths about the god Dionysus, maenads and satyrs who follow him everywhere, the Great Dionysia (the biggest festival in honor of the god of wine and festivity), will help us form a mental image and visualize how things were when the tragedy was born and the masterpieces of Aeschylus, Sophocles and Euripides were performed for the first time.

4. The evolution of sculpture in antiquity
A series of exhibits that are important milestones in the evolution of ancient Greek sculpture, such as the Volomandra Kouros from the National Archaeological Museum, the Kritios boy from the Acropolis Museum or the Zeus of Artemision, will allow the visitor through the tactile contact to understand the amazing transition from the static sculpture of the Archaic era, to the completely liberated one of the Classical and later Hellenistic eras.

5. Ancient vessels/vases and banquet
Each vase has a story to tell us; Each figure painted on it can travel us back in time and let us be part of the life scenes at that time for a while, listen to the lyre of Apollo or the conversations of men at a banquet, holding a kantharus full of wine.
The rich collection of vases and raised patterns made especially for tactile exploration, will help the visitor to better understand the daily life and concerns of the ancient Greeks.
