Bronze statue of Poseidon

Bronze statue of Poseidon. Found at the bottom of the sea off Cape Artemision in north Euboea. The god is depicted in wide stride. The left arm is extended forward. In his right hand he once held a trident. One of the finest and rare surviving original bronze statues of the Classical period. Probably from the hand of the famous bronzes’ sculptor Kalamis. Circa 450 BC (NAM Χ 15161)
